Tips and tricks for studying

  1. Drink plenty of water
This keeps you energised, boosts your mood, keeps you awake and alert. Water is also a natural headache preventer!
  2. Make lists.
Lists can help you visualise the tasks you need to complete. You also get that satisfying feeling of checking something off once you’ve completed your tasks.
  3. Eliminate distractions
Put your phone on airplane mode whilst you are working. If you need something playing in the background, play soothing music or find a “study” playlist that can be played. There are heaps if you search on YouTube or Spotify. Another great website with background sounds to play when studying is noisli.
  4. Find a note-taking system that works for you
Experiment with different techniques until you find one that fits your needs. Don’t worry too much about the style of your handwriting either.
  5. Third time’s the charm
Taking notes in class is important (it’s where you get your notes and info from) but it is not enough just by itself. Take scratch notes in class then rewrite them when you get home. Revisit your notes a third time, either a week later and highlight key points.
  6. Get plenty of sleep
Who doesn’t love sleep? Sleeping helps increase your concentration and helps you make better informed decisions. You’ll remember things better as it boosts your memory. Like drinking water, it also improves you mood; gets you ready to face on the long and hard day ahead.
